The Buick LaCrosse With eAssist and the Ford Fusion Hybrid

It's hard not to feel affected when the price of gas is constantly increasing. Many of us are already on a pretty tight budget and a drastic increase in fuel prices can be hard to take. Not only are high gas prices devastating economically; consumption of fuel also affects the environment. There's never been a higher demand for efficient vehicles. Let's take a look at two cars that offer exceptional mileage and won't break the bank.

The Ford Fusion hybrid looks just like the traditional model; it appears clean, smooth and very handsome with a chrome grille in front. Mileage is exceptional at 41 mpg on the freeway and 36 mpg for city driving. The Fusion hybrid utilizes the SmartGauge system which encourages you to drive more efficient by rewarding you with sweet graphics; it's almost like a video game. Another cool feature is Ford's Sync system which allows you to change your music and stereo settings, place phone calls and utilize the navigation system by using your voice.

As all hybrids do, the Ford Fusion makes use of an electric and traditional engine to derive its power. The traditional engine consists of a 2.5 Liter V4 engine and the electric motor is powered by a 275 volt battery. Nine seconds is all it takes for this hot car to go from stand still to 60 mph. Of course it's not a race car but the Fusion's 194 hp is more than enough for every day driving. The Fusion's interior is well designed and offers roomy seating for all occupants. The only minus is the trunk which is a tad on the small side at 11.8 cubic feet. MSRP stands at around $19,820.

Buick is known for its elegant and roomy cars but it's not well known yet for its green cars. Many people think of the LaCrosse as a classy luxury car with lots of room. However, the new 2012 comes with eAssist which makes it extremely efficient. Let's look at the numbers; 37 mpg on the freeway and 25 mpg in the city. It is technically not called a "hybrid" but it will utilize a few of the mechanisms and function as the majority of hybrid cars. Regenerative braking ensures that energy is distributed to maximize efficiency. Soothing blue lighting is in place which lights up the cabin at night. The rich leather seats are comfortable and easy to sink into plus they are adjustable.

Features that come standard include air bags, XM radio, On-Star, adjustable seats and the ability to control the audio system via control knobs on the steering wheel. Buyers can choose from three different models; the base model CX, mid level CXL and top of the line CXS. The CXS comes with an eleven speaker sound system, the ability to plug in your iPod music player via USB, ventilated seats, sweet seventeen inch wheels and Rear Parking Assist. MSRP starts at around the $27k mark and will increase depending on the options and packages selected.
